WORK COMP - INJURED OUT OF STATE?

07 Jul, 2020

What happens if an Iowa worker gets hurt out of state? Does Iowa law apply?

Yes, but there are several questions that must be answered before you can be confident Iowa law applies. 1) Were you hired in Iowa? This can be a tricky question. 2) Does your company have an office in Iowa or do work in Iowa? 3) Does your company have a rule that Iowa work comp applies to all injuries, anywhere?

Remember that a worker injured in a different state also has rights in that state. So, be sure to check the laws in both states to be fully informed about the best path to follow. At our law firm, the calls are free… no matter how complicated the questions.
