A news release from Formosa Plastics has confirmed that two unrelated accidents injured two employees and a contract worker. Iowa residents understand that one industrial accident on a business site can be problematic. OSHA cites farmers' co-op after worker dies from toxic exposure

Farmers in Iowa may be familiar with the fertilizer anhydrous ammonia. It's a clear and odorless gas that can increase crop yields when applied to soil. Anhydrous ammonia can also be extremely toxic and corrosive to humans. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention notes that breathing even a small amount of the gas can cause vomiting, burns and stomach pain. The gas is also explosive, and heavy exposure can result in death.

Study of pesticides effects on Iowa farm workers ends this year

The world's largest study into the dangers of pesticide exposure to farm workers is wrapping up this year. It's been underway for 20 years. Researchers say the findings that have surfaced could be crucial for reducing the risks of workplace injury or illness from unsafe products for not only farm workers but for anyone who has to handle dangerous chemicals as part of their job.
