Construction worker suffers workplace injuries

A man was injured on a job site around noon on Nov. 30, according to sources local to the accident. The worker apparently suffered workplace injuries after a fall on a construction site. Iowa construction workers know how dangerous a job site can be, which is why workers' compensation is so important to protect those who have been injured on the job.

The accident report states the man, who was not identified, was working on the second floor of a home under construction when the accident occurred. The specifics of how the man fell were not immediately clear, but a lack of stairs inside the building prompted first responders to stabilize the man and then lower him out the window to the ground. He was taken to a hospital with injuries that have not been publicly revealed at this time.

Local law enforcement contacted the local branch of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, which is expected to launch its own investigation into the specifics of the accident. The injured man was taken to a Connecticut hospital nearby. The job site has not been closed down at this time.

More information is needed before it can be determined what steps must be taken to make the job site safe for workers. Eliminating workplace injuries is one of the most important jobs, not only of companies overseeing job sites, but also of OSHA -- both here in Iowa and around the country. In the meantime, it seems likely the worker will be entitled to workers' compensation benefits to help shore up lost wages and medical expenses during his recovery.
