Man suffers workplace injuries after accident

A man is believed to have been injured on a job site, according to industry sources. The man reportedly suffered workplace injuries at a port location familiar to Iowa residents. While the man is expected to recover, he will likely also be offered workers' compensation to help cover his medical expenses.

According to the report, the man was operating a straddle carrier at the time of the accident, just after 8 a.m. on the morning of Nov. 17. Apparently the carrier struck the spreader bar of a crane as the man was working beneath it. The carrier was badly damaged in the accident and will likely be removed from service until it can be appropriately repaired.

The man suffered injuries that were reported to be serious but not life-threatening. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Investigators on the scene say all the machinery being operated at the time of the accident was working properly when the man was injured. This means that a further, more comprehensive investigation will be launched to determine the cause of the accident and to keep it from happening again.

Sometimes accidents happen on job sites, and while some of these cannot be avoided, many can. Workplace injuries that result from such incidences are often preventable, which is why Iowa workers know the investigation is such an important part of the post-accident process. Equally important, of course, is offering workers' compensation packages to the injured man and his family. These packages are meant to help provide support for the worker and his family during his recovery time.
