Man suffers workplace injuries; struck by falling concrete

A construction worker has been injured in an on-the-job accident, according to sources local to the incident. The worker has been reported to have suffered workplace injuries in an incident involving falling concrete. Iowa construction workers know how common these sorts of injuries can be, and how devastating the effects of a long-term injury can be on a worker trying to support a family.

Around 1:45 p.m. on July 14, emergency workers were called to a job site where a worker had apparently been struck by falling concrete. Specifics of the accident are still being investigated by local authorities and OSHA, but it has been confirmed that a trench being dug around a sidewalk apparently collapsed. As a result, a large piece of concrete was dislodged, falling on the worker.

The worker's current status is unknown at the time of this report, but it has been confirmed that he had injuries to his legs. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Thankfully, medical experts do not believe the man's injuries are life-threatening at this time.

Workplace injuries are sadly common on construction sites, as Iowa workers are keenly aware. The ever-present danger of such injuries is why the state requires workers' compensation coverage, designed to protect individuals injured on the job. Such packages are meant to help allay the financial burden of an injury that may keep a worker off the job for extended periods of time due to injuries that may not allow for ordinary job responsibilities to be discharged while the accident victim is focused on recovery.
