Construction accident injures worker

March 18 saw an individual injured at a massive Apple construction site, according to local sources. The construction accident sent the worker to a local hospital for treatment. Iowa residents may have heard of the massive undertaking that is currently being overseen by the Apple corporation -- the construction of their new out-of-state complex.

Rescue crews responded to the accident site around 3:02 p.m. Local fire officials confirmed that a worker had become trapped under a large building block, though it was not clear the extent to which the worker was injured in the collapse. After some time, the worker was freed and taken to a local hospital for treatment of unknown injuries.

At this point the local branch of OSHA is undertaking its own investigation into the cause of the collapse. However, officials for OSHA refused to comment publicly on the accident. It will doubtless take some time for OSHA to go over the job site, which encompasses an incredible 2.8 million square feet off a local interstate highway. The building is slated for completion in 2016, though accidents of this nature can cause delays as investigations are undertaken.

On a project as massive in scope as this one, Iowa residents will agree that a construction accident becomes more possible. However, safety of workers should always be a paramount consideration in any project, no matter how large or small. In this case, the injured worker will likely be entitle to workers' compensation benefits to shore up lost wages and/or contribute to medical costs while OSHA conducts its investigation and the individual recovers.
