Construction worker seriously hurt in work accident

One construction worker is in critical care following a serious mishap on a job site, according to local sources. The work accident injured a man on the night of November 13 when he was caught in a piece of machinery. While Iowa residents are likely pleased to hear that he is expected to recover, it is still a concerning story for those who work in the construction industry.

According to the accident report, the man was working on a highway restoration project when the accident occurred. Apparently, he somehow got caught in an auger and was trapped by the machinery. When emergency personnel arrived on the scene, it took them several hours to extricate him from the machine.

The man's condition as of this writing is currently unknown, but he was rushed to a local hospital for treatment. As per state and federal guidelines, the local branch of OSHA would have been notified of the accident, and they will likely be launching their own investigation into the work site to ensure that accidents of this type do not happen again. No further information was available from this report.

This work accident may or may not have been preventable, as Iowa construction workers can attest. Not every accident can be foreseen, but hopefully the OSHA investigation will shed light on its cause and help to prevent further mishaps on this particular site. In the meantime, a workers' compensation package will likely be offered to the injured man to help him financially while he recovers from his injuries, both through providing for his medical costs and shoring up lost income during his recovery time.
